It became apparent while reviewing 5E Limited Tractor customer satisfaction surveys that operators wanted improvements to the comfort, layout, and design of the cab. Therefore, for model year 2012, all five of the top customer dissatisfiers were addressed. This includes a change to the layout of the right-hand controls, electrohydraulic power take-off (PTO) engagement, easier mechanical front-wheel drive (MFWD) engagement, a MFWD indicator light, and a factory-installed air-suspension seat.

Additional changes for the new model year include a resourcing of the 12F/12R PowrReverser™ transmission to a John Deere factory and the option of a triple rear-deluxe selective control valve (SCV) system.
Right-hand control layout

5E Limited right-hand controls

The right-hand controls on the 5E Limited have been revamped to increase operator comfort and efficiency. The PTO engagement was the number one customer dissatisfier.

For model year 2012, the right-hand side has an electrohydraulic PTO engagement button. This allows the operator to comfortably use the push/pull button to disengage and engage the PTO. In addition, this allows the 5E Limited to have a wet-traction PTO clutch, increasing the service life of the PTO and allowing it to last the life of the tractor.

The hitch controls have been moved from the floor to the right-hand console. The controls are spread out to make operation easier, which addresses customer dissatisfier number five.
MFWD engagement and indicator light

5E Limited MFWD engagement lever

The numbers two and three customer dissatisifiers addressed on the 5E Limited were the MFWD engagement and the lack of a MFWD engagement light. The MFWD engagement lever has been moved forward and closer to the operator to make engaging MFWD easier.

In addition, the lever has been changed to make the throw shorter when engaging MFWD. A light now appears on the dash when MFWD is engaged, as well.
Other feature updates

5E Limited triple rear deluxe SCVs

Additional new features on the 5E Limited include a factory-installed air-suspension seat. This seat has a push/pull button that allows the operator to remove or add air to the seat suspension.

The 5E Limited also has a rear deluxe SCV option. On this system, the operator can use the detent settings, in particular, the priority flow setting. This setting is best used when operating implements that are more hydraulically demanding.

Also, the model year 2012 5E Limited will now have a John Deere-built 12F/12R PowrReverser transmission. The transmission will still operate the same as past models; however, John Deere will be able to control the production schedule instead of relying on an outside source.
