For 2013, new John Deere X700 Signature Series Tractors replace the John Deere X700 Ultimate Series with updated styling and a host of new and improved features to strengthen their position as the best mowing tractors available. Key feature enhancements include improvements to styling, engine cooling, four-wheel steering, operator comfort, and mower decks.

Model numbers and major features are similar to the John Deere X700 Ultimate tractors replaced. Add '10' to the old model number to get the new model number (X710 replaces the X700, etc.). There is no replacement for the X749.

Styling and design

 John Deere Tractor Seat

Two-piece seat with adjustable back angle

Up-to-date styling with new controls, seat, and fender deck to position the operator in the tractor rather than on the tractor, for more comfort and productivity.

A professional two-piece seat has a thick cushion and a back that easily tilts to the optimum angle for each operator. The seat design includes a provision for installing an optional armrest kit, BM24426.

The steel fender deck has rolled edges for extra strength.

New frame design

John Deere Tractor Frame

Full-length welded steel frame

The frame design is enhanced to give longer life:

  • Thicker transaxle mounts
    • Welded-on plate is 0.25-in. (6-mm) thick, 0.08-in. (2-mm) thicker than previous transaxle mounting points on frame.
    • The additional welded-on plate allows homogeneous frame rail cross-sections, stronger than mounting transaxle directly to the frame.
  • Cross-braces welded in place versus bolted

Engine cooling and performance

 John Tractor Screen

Cooling screens easy to keep clean Easy-to-clean radiator screen

Large cooling-air screens, designed into the hood and pedestal area, stay cleaner during operation and are easier to clean, if necessary. Airflow through the radiator is improved for more efficient engine cooling:

  • The radiator has 14 percent more volume and has ten fins per inch versus eight to give a 30 percent greater heat rejection rate.
  • The radiator screen is easy to pull out and clean once the hood is raised.

Four-wheel steering performance

On the X734, X739, and X754, four-wheel steering increases mowing efficiency. Time and effort required to trim around trees and other objects is reduced, the operator's ability to cut square corners is improved, and overall maneuverability is increased compared to a two-wheel steer tractor. Improvements for the Signature Series include:

  • More clearance under the tractor to allow a deep-deck-design mower (new high-capacity decks) to be used on four-wheel steer models
  • Reduced complexity with fewer parts
  • Optimized ball joint travel and angles (reduced from 20 degrees to 10 degrees)

Operator comfort and controls

Additional reverse implement option (RIO) button

Controls sized and shaped for easy use

Full instrumentation and automotive-type controls are standard equipment. Controls are sized and shaped for easy use:

  • Feel/feedback of controls is improved.
  • An additional RIO button has been added to the left of the steering column for extra convenience when the right hand is used to raise front-mounted PTO-driven equipment while preparing to back up.
  • Hydrostatic foot control efforts on four-wheel drive models have been reduced to match two-wheel drive tractor efforts.

Mower decks

60-in. (152-cm) high-capacity mower deck

High-capacity mower has deep-deck design

Available mowers include:

  • 48-in. (122-cm) Edge™ Xtra Mower Deck
    • Unchanged from 2012, requires BM24370 upstop kit for Signature Series Tractors
  • 54-in. (137-cm) and 60-in. (152-cm) high-capacity (HC) mower decks
    • A deeper deck cuts cleaner and handles a larger volume of grass.
    • The deck is stamped from heavy, 9-gauge, 0.150-in. (3.8-mm) steel for durability.
    • Reinforcement is welded to lower edge of deck for extra strength and longer life.
    • Drive-over installation eliminates much of the effort required to remove and install the mower.
      • AutoConnect™ feature is available as a field-installed option.

Equipment compatibility

Most equipment and attachments used on X700 Ultimate John Deere Tractors may also be used on X700 Signature Series, with the following exceptions:

  • The 45 Loader is not compatible and is discontinued. No loader is available for Signature Series.
  • An upstop kit, BM24370, is required to install the 48X Mower Deck or prior year 54X, 62X, or 60-in. 7-Iron™ Mower Decks.
  • A new hard cab and weather enclosure is required for Signature Series John Deere Tractors. The soft cab is discontinued and is not available for the Signature Series.
  • A new front brush guard, BM24375, is required for Signature Series John Deere Tractors.
  • New front fender kits are required for Signature Series John Deere Tractors.
    • BM24429 front fender kit for X710, X730, and X750
    • BM24430 front fender kit for X738, X739, and X758
  • BM24425 auxiliary alternator kit is required for X710, X730, X734, X738, and X739.
  • BM24363 9-weight front weight bracket is required for Signature Series John Deere Tractors.
